Depois disso, costuma-se esperar ou torcer para que o assunto caia no esquecimento. Mas o caso do Galaxy Note 7 atingiu proporções muito grandes. Aeroportos e companhias aéreas de todo o mundo dão avisos até hoje sobre a proibição de uso do aparelho, só para você ter ideia. À Samsung não cabia outra opção que não fosse investigar o problema e se pronunciar a respeito. Esse é o jeito mais sensato de diminuir os estragos. As causas Pois bem. Foram quatro meses de testes com 200 mil unidades do Galaxy Note 7 recolhidas pela empresa, mais 30 mil baterias adicionais, além de 700 funcionários dedicados a esse trabalho. DJ Koh, chefe da Samsung Mobile, começou o pronunciamento se desculpando pelo problema e, depois de alguns minutos, confirmou que o risco de incêndio se deve exclusivamente à bateria. A porta USB-C e o scanner de íris estavam entre os demais componentes suspeitos, mas todos foram “inocentados”. O Galaxy Note 7 foi produzido com dois tipos de baterias. Para facilitar a compreensão, a Samsung as denominou bateria A e bateria B. No projeto, as baterias B são mais seguras. Porém, um defeito de fabricação causou problemas na soldagem que, por sua vez, criam “rebarbas” microscópicas capazes de penetrar na bateria, basicamente. Quando isso acontece, o risco de curto aumenta sobremaneira. Apesar de fabricadas por outra companhia, a Samsung assumiu a responsabilidade pelas baterias B. Nas palavras de Koh, o design agressivo do smartphone pode ter contribuído para o mau funcionamento do componente. E agora? Como que para dizer que os resultados são legítimos e não têm divergências, a Samsung afirma que três organizações independentes participaram dos testes UL, Exponent e TÜV Rheinland. Se é assim, talvez o Galaxy Note 7 pudesse voltar ao mercado usando uma “bateria C” e alguma adaptação de projeto, certo? Teoricamente, sim, mas é claro que isso não vai acontecer. Agora, as atenções da Samsung estão voltadas aos próximos lançados talvez o Note 8 esteja entre eles, mas não há confirmação. Em um esforço para recuperar a confiança do mercado, a companhia disse que desenvolveu um programa com oito pontos de verificação para assegurar que esse tipo de problema não ocorra mais. Essas etapas incluem um teste de raio-X para detectar anormalidades no interior da bateria e um processo de uso acelerado que simula em cinco dias o estado que o componente teria após duas semanas de utilização.
